The Nightmare Before Christmas
Steps PDX School proudly presents all new original works, "The Nightmare Before Christmas". From ghoulish goblins to sprightful snowflakes, journey into the calamity ever so great, that occurred when two holidays met by mistake.
After 2 years of not being able to gather in a theatre, our dancers returned to the stage in front of a live audience with 2 sold-out performances. To those who made this possible, with all our hearts, thank you. Performances were in partnership and sponsored by Portland Center Stage at The Armory.
JAW Festival at the Armory
This festival featured readings of new scripts, Teen Playwrights Showcase, plus performances from community labs, and dynamic local artists, including our very our Steps PDX School students.
Since launching in 1999, JAW has created a space for playwrights to have complete creative control and the resources to work on whatever they want to develop in their scripts. To date, 87 scripts have been developed at JAW and 19 JAW plays have received fully staged productions at Portland Center Stage, giving Portland a strong national reputation for not only incubating new work, but helping to see that work to successful fruition. JAW plays have gone on to receive world premiere productions at professional theaters across the country and beyond, including New York Theater Workshop, Steppenwolf Theatre, and Berkeley Repertory Theatre.
Spring 2021 School Performance
Discover the work of the STEPS PDX School with this special, virtual performance. The show features students discussing the trailblazing dancers and choreographers that inspire them, and a showcase of the warm-ups from their classes and the choreography they have learned and created these past few months in various styles from Ballet, Contemporary, Modern and Hip-Hop.
This is a donation-based performance, where all proceeds will support the STEPS PDX relocation to a new studio space and the non-profit organization Steps for Youth (SFY).
