Trail Blazers: Celebration of Black History Month

Date: February 10th

Join Portland's NBA team, the Portland Trail Blazers, at their annual Celebration of Black History. This event honors the city's Black and African American community and celebrates their contributions nationwide.

The night will feature special performances, retail items and multiple fundraising efforts benefiting  Imagine Black, a nonprofit whose mission is to build political participation and leadership within the Black community.

Rejoice Diaspora Dance Theatre Presents: Rights of Passage

Black History Month 2024, Rejoice! Diaspora Dance Theatre (RDDT) will premiere RITES OF PASSAGE, an evening of dance investigating community and personal transitions, drawing equally from contemporary, Diasporic and West African dance. RITES will run for 5 shows over two weekends, February 16-25, 2024 at Reed College’s Greenwood Theatre.

NW Black Comedy Festival

Dates: February 15th-18th

Bigger, Blacker, And Funnier With More Showcases And Live Podcasts Than Ever Before. Eleven Showcases, Two Live Podcasts, And Over Sixty Black Comics From All Over The World Will Be In Town For Four Days And Hours Of Laughter!

Cascade Festival of African Films

Dates: February 2nd-March 2nd

The Cascade Festival of African Films shows us Africa through the eyes of Africans, rather than a vision of Africa packaged for Western viewers. The films celebrate Africa’s achievements, expose its failures, and reveal possibilities for a hopeful future. Although the films cannot represent an entire continent, we hope to encourage American viewers to become interested in and study African cultures.

White Bird Presents: Music from the Soul

Dates: February 29th-March 2nd

Making their West Coast debut, Music From The Sole is a tap and live music company that celebrates tap's Afro-diasporic roots, especially its connections to Afro-Brazilian dance and music.  Receiving great acclaim for their appearances at the Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival and Tap in Rio, this brilliant company will perform their newest work,  I Didn't Come to Stay, which embraces a unique combination of tap, percussive dance, house, and Brazilian street dance.

Obsidian Dreams: Variety Show and Dance Party

Date: February 24th 

A variety show and dance party in celebration of Black history and Black Futures. Celebrate Black Joy with an all -star cast of DJs, musicians, burlesque dancers, comedians, astrology readers, and storytellers

Portland Jazz Festival

Check out the Portland Jazz Festival for a variety of events and performances by black artists and performers. The festival honors special jazz anniversaries and legends, along with feature performances by legendary artists.
